Dear Trishbot:

Business Ethics # 6 was a great issue! I loved how you managed to give us an issue so full of fantastic fetish fuel!

My favorite parts are page 84 and 85 when meekly follows the roboticed victims, page 89, when we see Andrea’s face, and page 94, where Patel gives a cruel kiss to Andrea only to mock her helplessness, it was great!

I must say, to see a superheroine so powerful in her secret identity as in her super heroine identity being defeated by Max was arousing. I love that kind of scenes and for that, I thank you. My only question? Why is there not an Evil Laugh at the final page?

Given all the comments this last issue have provoked, I would like to say that even when Andrea’s defeat seems rushed, it was time to advance the plot, and after all, Max is threatening with kill innocents and no decent hero will stand for that (just ask the dark knight how bad that gone).

But the principal point is that you had commented in the post that this was only one of the lot of twists you promised in your storyline, I am willing to wait to see you surprise us! I have plenty of trust in your skills as a writer to convince us this was a good decision.

PD: I know you’re not trying to produce the next Watchmen, but your comics are very well done in this niche market. Also, comparing Adam West with Chris Nolan is something strange… we are talking about batman, a comic book character: Adam West did a campy parody, but Chris Nolan treated him as a shakespearan character… what of these opinions are more mature?

:P Missed opportunity, I guess... I just finished doing about three issues for Doc and Fin that all had evil laughs in them, and I guess I just filled my evil-laugh quotient.

Given all the comments this last issue have provoked, I would like to say that even when Andrea’s defeat seems rushed, it was time to advance the plot, and after all, Max is threatening with kill innocents and no decent hero will stand for that (just ask the dark knight how bad that gone).

I'd say that, well, the story isn't QUITE over... I do wish I had had more time to make this a longer issue and draw the enslavement out, but I honestly knew that the original enslavement of Nicole had covered the ground already. You know what's going to happen, so there was no direct need to stretch it out... especially when the GOOD stuff is next issue. ;)

I will say this though... Max is many things, but he's not really a murderer. To him, this is fun and games. His threats to Valor Girl and Nicole were nothing more than bluffs. Granted, Andrea didn't know that; why would she? It was a risk she wasn't willing to take when lives are hanging in the balance. Max proved himself a scoundrel and used that to his advantage, much like how Dr. Twisted used Valient Grrl as a hostage to snag Alpha Woman (a long time ago), even though he never truly was going to let harm come to her. That's the problem with noble heroines; they can be a little TOO trusting.

But the principal point is that you had commented in the post that this was only one of the lot of twists you promised in your storyline, I am willing to wait to see you surprise us! I have plenty of trust in your skills as a writer to convince us this was a good decision.

We'll see...

I'd argue that BOTH have merit. For example, Adam West's portrayal has some areas of the character that are actually more adult and naughty than Nolan's ever was. I also find the "dark and gritty" version to be missing a huge part of Batman's original appeal, which WAS a sense of humor. It doesn't have to be all "Wham!" and "Bam!" and "Holy bikinis, Batman!", but superhero comics have ALWAYS had a bit of wacky humor to them that, sadly, I feel has been lost over time. I find it MORE mature to tell a story that you can smile and laugh along with and enjoy on its wacky level than to create a one-dimensional portrayal of a world of bland gritty darkness.

Modern Batman, well, sucks, because he's not HAPPY to be Batman. He has no fun doing his job.

Metrobay, however, is full of both heroines and villains that relish being heroines. They love the wacky adventures and even erotic trouble they get into. Some characters are more serious (or were turned more serious) than others, but one thing I love about Metrobay is how so many of them, both hero and villain, do what they do out of a sheer JOY of being good and bad. I don't like it when Metrobay starts getting too serious and overdramatic, when it stops having fun, because it's a universe CREATED for fun. It's a giant sandbox for all the big kids with money and powers to play in, not a place for grim accounts of dead heroes, violent beatings, repressed psychological trauma, and tragic ends. Metrobay is the land of big breasts, naughty bondage, and sexy mind control...

... Long may it reign.

But it seems Max has even BIGGER plans in store for Azure Avenger and Andrea Carmichael, culminating in a revelation that will alter the very core of Metrobay itself! What scheme has Max concocted, and is this truly the fate of Azure Avenger? Find out in the exciting finale to "Business Ethics", only at MCComix!

See all the twists and turns here: http://www.mccomix.com/members/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=64827

Thanks for reading everyone! I had a ton of fun with this one! Thanks to Finister Foul and Doc Robo for all their support and encouragement, and for dealing with all the dynamics of the story and characters. Well, THAT was a heck of a ride. I for one think it was a great story. :D

I'll be interested in seeing what the repercussions are for the Metrobay universe. Could this be a lead in for other stories...

Yes indeed.

This is a bit of a spoiler for The Chrome Virus (being updated at the metrobaycomix.com site) -- it looks like Alpha Woman is going to put an end to Belinda's prison fun. At least, Valiant Grrl seems to be back at squad HQ as of the end of this story.

It does seem like the Azure Avenger is playing a deeper and more dangerous game than is usual for Metrobay heroines. She didn't quite set out explicitly to get herself enslaved in order to collect evidence but she came damn close. And if her plans work out we might even see American Amazon restored and who would have ever imagined *that* would be possible? (Although that does bring another question to mind -- just how much credibility can 'Patriot Princess' have as a superheroine with a giant "Cum Dumpster" tattoo on her belly? I realize the citizens of Metrobay are deeply stupid, but that seems excessive even for them.)

Dear Trishbot:

I need time to make an adequate review of Business ethics last issue, but I only want to answer your comment about Batman didn’t enjoying his superhero work.

As you said, the sixties batman had some areas adult and naughty. The first season was a very good deconstruction of the wacky hijinks of that era (remember this was the Silver Age Batman in comics, the show really portrayed well those comics).

Then again, Nolan’s version is still good. Just ask yourself: How a superhero in reality could enjoy his job? Batman has to fight psychos every night and twice Sundays. The only thing worse is that he begins to enjoy it. That is the Joker!

Talking about that, have you ever seen Batman the Brave and the Bold? Has a little less of camp that the TV Series, but I consider it my favorite version of Batman… someone who could really enjoy his job ;)

We're definitely a bit like Brave and the Bold. We even have our own Music Meister!

This story's place in the timeline isn't QUITE set in stone. It could've been before her enslavement, during it (she did spend SOME time back at the Squad), or, yeah, after. It's the same way I didn't put an official stamp on when "Body Image" took place or Finister's "Wicked Fun Park", which also has her walking around and not having her face shoved up Belinda's bum.

And if her plans work out we might even see American Amazon restored and who would have ever imagined *that* would be possible? Oh, well, you see, "Patriot Princess" is a poster child of Max's good and noble "reform" program he's set up with the APEX Avengers. She's "seen the light" and reformed from her whoring, slutty ways and has embraced his noble superheroine group to use her "assets" to better use, even if she still carries the history of her naughty days...

... or at least that's the story she and Max will tell.

Just to interject here...the most likely placing of this story in Metrobay continuity would be before or after the Belinda/Funhouse setting. It was established in "Day In the Life - VG" that Valiant Grrl was ordered by Belinda to avoid Squad HQ so as to keep any thoughts of suspicious activity going on from fermenting.

Where it fits ultimately depends on arcs yet to finish or possibly even start....

Well, if it's after then we know how "The Chrome Virus" is going to turn out. Northern Chill gives some good reasons why it wouldn't make sense to be during, which leaves the question of could it be before. Specifically, could it be before "Forbidden Fantasy", the arc in which Valiant Grrl was enslaved by Belinda and taken into the Funhouse? Let's think about that. We know that "Business Ethics" takes place after "A New Drone In Town" becaue Ginger Monroe is no longer a greybot. And we see Valient Grrl as a brainwashed Funhouse guard in "A New Drone In Town" #2, while Ginger is de-greyed in #5. We can't put "A New Drone In Town" before "Catatonic Kitty" because Fran's conversion into a greybot took place in CK. "Catatonic Kitty" takes place after "Musk of the Mynx" and "Musk of the Mynx" takes place after "Forbidden Fantasy".

I think you run into some pretty nasty contradictions if you try to put "Business Ethics" before "Forbidden Fantasy". And now that I've demonstrated that I have way too much time on my hands I'm going to go do something useful with my weekend.

To pinpoint it more, Ethics has to follow the events of "To Love And Obey" due to Vivian's state of mind, so to speak.

If it goes before Fantasy, it'd have to occur before Illicit Rendezvous for Ginger to make sense.

I'd say it occurs around the same period as Finister Foul's "Sex Pets of the Wild West" and "Wicked Fun Park". Besides that, Doc's plans for Valient Grrl and Alpha Woman are... interesting. I'm not ruling out either before or after, so long as the story remains interesting on its own merits. Though the existence of a whole new branch of superheroines in Metrobay IS something that wouldn't go unnoticed for loads of stories, I wager...

The timing for those two stories are currently unclear.

mns_95125 is correct with the analysis of the timeline and what stories have to occur before others. Here's another datapoint: Leela/Shawna Patel was introduced in Catatonic Kitty, which must take place after Forbidden Fantasy, and it's clear that she does not have the relationship with Indeks that develops in Business Ethics. Consequently, Business Ethics must take place after Forbidden Fantasy. Therefore, assuming there's no Valient Grrl programming by Belinda to make her appear normal (which is clearly not the case with any of the ones she's brainwashed), it has to be subsequent to the events of The Drone Agenda.
