Rita Collor and Jaime Diaz were on the upper deck of a passenger ferry sailing northeast along the Amazon River towards the town of Punto Curua that was located close to Block 59, the part of the river where Brazilian oil company Globo Petroleo was exploring for oil.
As she stood next to her teenage assistant, Rita was thinking about the earlier meeting she and Jaime had with Pedro Lopes at the Indigenous People's Ministry's office in Macapa. She also thought about the conversation she had days earlier with Globo Petroleo CEO Jorge Medeiros on board the company's oil platform when she regained consciousness as Samba, after stopping an attack by masked mercenaries on one of the company's floating rigs
As she tried to make sense of what Medeiros and Lopes had told her, Rita was finding it difficult to concentrate as she stood next to Jaime.
"Uuuuh...Maybe...Uuuh...having Jaime come with me...Uuuh...on this trip...Uuuh...might not have been wise. Being close to him, turns me on so easily.
